Winchester
Just a short bike ride from Lainston House is the ancient city of Winchester where the first settlement dates back to the iron age around 150BC. Winchester was an important Roman centre and became in later years the Saxon capital of England. Construction of the present Cathedral dates back to the early 11th century.

Up the Itchen Valley from Winchester lies the market town of Alresford. Stop here and enjoy the local pubs, delicatessans and tea shops for a well earned break.

A beautiful day ride down through the Test Valley and have lunch in the rose gardens of Mottisfont Abbey. This is a National Trust property set on the banks of the River Test famous for its house and gardens.
