Cycling in N Devon / Exmoor

North Devon has a character of its own with the wilderness of Exmoor bounded to the north by the dramatic Atlantic coastline. To the west you can ride for miles on the traffic free "Tarka Trail" which now runs for 180 miles from the North Coast to the South Coast.

Lynton

On the northern coast is the pretty town of Lynton. If you have the stamina for numerous hills then you will enjoy the spectacular scenery along the coast.

Cycling along the Northern Coast rewarded with a visit to the picturesque village of Ilfracombe, offering centuries of charm and style.

Exmoor National Park

The wild countryside of the moor meets the northern coast in dramatic fashion. Cycling through the moor makes for a very diferent and exhilerating experience.

The Tarka Trail

Stretching from the N coast to the S Coast, the Tarka trail offers a range of cycling mainly on traffic free routes on converted railway tracks.

Green, Blue, Black - 1,2, 3 day loops

Sheepwash

Situated on the Tarka Trail is the sleepy little village of Sheepwash. Stay in the half Moon Inn and enjoy a comfortable room and good food. If it takes your fancy you can spend an extra day and do some fly fishing in the local River Torridge.

Black Routes

To fully savour the beauty of Exmoor, a ride across the moor to the North Coast is a must. It is a hard ride though with climbs over 400m.

Blue Routes

A long cycle ride up the Tarka Trail has hills at the begining and the end but a nice smooth ride along the traffic free trail around the River Taw estuary.

Green Routes

The Tarka Trail offers a great ride for the occassional cyclist. However there are other country routes of around 40kms in length that can be taken if you don't mind walking up the steeper inclines.
