About Us
Cycle Tours UK has been created from the passion and enthusiasm of its founder, Chris Dawson. A keen cyclist, from childhood, Chris is never happier than when he's travelling on a bicycle through the beautiful landscapes accessible throughout the UK. Cycling adventures have taken him through the UK, Europe, Canada and Asia.
After settling in Hampshire in 1995, Chris began cycling the quiet lanes of the Hampshire countryside and realised that the loveliness of the landscape, the fresh air, the country pubs and the friendly locals were a cycling experience that should be shared by more people. After exploring further afield into South West England, the Cotswolds, the Peak District and Scotland, Chris was convinced the resources were there to create exciting cycling vacations. He also realised from his own experience, that cycle touring didn't have to be the "rough and ready" youth hostel or camping experience of his youth. At the end of a good day's ride, he wanted a steaming soak, a delicious meal and a really comfortable bed to make an already enjoyable activity an exceptional one.
Chris brings a wealth of professional and personal experience to Cycle Tours UK. For years he has been a passionate and enthusiastic tour guide for friends and family on cycle tours throughout the UK and France. Chris also has 30 years experience as a project manager working on international development projects. This work not only required commitment to seeing projects through from inception to completion, but also required a high degree of involvement in Health and Safety. All of these aspects have contributed to the creation of Cycle Tours UK.
In 2005, Chris helped found the "Peddle Paddle Pace" family charity event with Macmillan Cancer Relief in his home town of Winchester. This event involves a 20km bike ride, a 5km run and a 2 km kayak on the beautiful River Itchen. It is now an annual event on the Winchester calendar which he still proudly supports through Cycle Tours UK.
Chris and his staff at Cycle Tours UK are all exceptional bike mechanics and take pride in ensuring that all bicycles are carefully maintained before and after each tour. All staff members are also fully qualified First Aiders, with particular emphasis on cycling injuries.
